Clare Rimnac

Clare Rimnac is a Distinguished University Professor Emerita in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland OH, USA. Among other leadership roles, Clare served as Chair of her department, Associate Dean for Research in the Case School of Engineering, and President of the Orthopaedic Research Society. Prior to CWRU, Clare was a Research Scientist in the Department of Biomechanics at Hospital for Special Surgery. She is currently a Senior Associate Editor for Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research.

Clare received her B.S. in Metallurgy and Materials Science from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh PA and her Ph.D. in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem PA. Her research contributions have been focused in the areas of orthopaedic biomechanics and biomaterials, including implant retrieval analysis, materials characterization, polymer fracture mechanics, and mechanical performance of bone tissues. Over her career, one of her great joys has been teaching and mentoring engineering students, medical students, orthopaedic residents, and post-doctoral fellows. Along with her advisees and colleagues, she has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.

Clare is a Fellow of ASM International, the ORS, AIMBE, and the International Combined Orthopaedic Research Societies. Among other honors, she is the recipient of the Alfred R. Shands Jr., M.D. Award of the ORS, the ORS/OREF Distinguished Investigator Award, the ORS Women’s Leadership Award, the AAOS Ann Doner Vaughan Kappa Delta Award, the Knee Society Award, and the Frank Stinchfield Award of The Hip Society.
